1991-1992

Disassembled the entire truck.

Sandblasted the frame and rebuild brakes.

2003

February

 Disassemble engine for rebuild.  It is an original 1953 216 babbit bearing engine.  The truck has 32000 original miles.  The truck was used on a farm, never maintained.  The engine has 0.001" wear on the main bearings and 0.012" - 0.016" wear on the cylinders.

    Plans:

        Engine: Bore cylinders, replace rods with insert type, No more babbit.

        Clutch: Replace with  new

        Transmission:  Clean and restore

    Car Quest in Picayune rebuilt the head

        New hardened Valve Seats
        New Valve Guides and seals
        Shaved the head

    Columbia Diesel in Columbia, MS

        Bored the cylinders 0.030" over
        Machined the crank 0.010" under
        Set the crank and shimmed.
        Installed Cam gear and bearings

    Jim Carter Classic truck parts

        Purchased machined connecting rods for insert type.
        Purchased all mechanical parts

Rebuild Starter

    required brushes, & solenoid

    required brushes, bearings (oil type, as original)

Rebuilt Distributor

    required condenser, points, cap, & rotor

Reconditioned Coil

    required cleaning & painting

Reconditioned Oil Canister

    Cleaned and Painted
    as original (Blue bottom, Orange Top)

Rebuilt Carburetor

    required Carb kit
    purchased aftermarket air cleaner (chrome), not happy, really want an original.

Reassembled Engine, installed components

Rebuilt 3-speed transmission (broke speedo gear)

Installed Engine and transmission on frame (ready for body).

January 2004

Purchased an original oil bath air cleaner from Chevy Duty (needs cleaning an repainting but good shape)

February 2004

Purchased new box w/polish strips and bolt kit from Chevy Duty.

    Bed sides need primer (cleaned and primed)

March 2004

Sand blasted and primed cab. (cab needs floor replaced on driver side, next project)

Found Speedometer gear from "Heavy Chevy" (local GM dealer said good luck finding that, NO HELP!)
